Three Innovations that Define a “Next-Generation Global Transit Hub"

Published By: Aviatrix     Published Date: Jun 11, 2018
Join Aviatrix for a discussion of next-generation transit hubs that are purpose-built to treat the network as code, rather than as a virtualized instance of a data center router. Learn how a software-defined approach can transform your AWS transit hub design from a legacy architecture exercise into a strategic infrastructure initiative that doesn’t require you to descend into the command-line interface and BGP of the IT networking world. As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei and Neel Kamal, head of field operations at Aviatrix share the requirements that our most successful customers have insisted upon for their Global Transit Networks, and demonstrate the key features that deliver on those requirements. Who Should Watch? Anyone responsible for connectivity of cloud resources, including cloud architects, cloud infrastructure managers, cloud engineers, and networking staff.

Is There a Better Way to Manage Product Development Projects?

Published By: Dassault Systèmes     Published Date: Aug 08, 2017
A recent study by Engineering.com indicated there is a significant gap between how Industrial Equipment Manufacturing companies value specific aspects of their project execution and how they judge their performance. In order to address the challenging aspects of product development projects, it was determined that projects with a web-based Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution will perform higher. Learn how PLM solutions with embedded project management can uniquely provide the following operational best practices: • Full alignment between projects and the product portfolio in order to leverage common technology platforms and launch products to market faster • Coordination of a project’s schedule and resources, with its scope as defined by requirements and development constraints, in order to meet market expectations • Automatic project task updates as development work is completed to provide a real-time understanding of project status and progress

IDC: SD-WAN: Guidance on WAN Transformation

Published By: Riverbed     Published Date: Nov 30, 2016
Digital transformation on the 3rd Platform continues to present unprecedented opportunities and challenges for enterprise networks and the IT professionals who operate them. Indeed, the requirements associated with cloud computing have already reverberated through data center networking, with software-defined networking (SDN) arising as an architectural approach that provided the network with the agility and responsiveness that it lacked previously but has come to require. Now, the focus is turning to how the WAN must change to accommodate the requirements of cloud applications and services. Fortunately, technologies such as hybrid WAN and software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) are coming to the rescue, giving enterprise IT the means to allow the WAN to meet these challenges directly.

Transforming Storage in the Age of Cloud, Virtualization, Software-Defined Data Centers and Big Data

Published By: EMC Corporation     Published Date: Dec 08, 2014
Traditional methods for provisioning and maintaining storage resources are no longer sufficient to achieving business goals due to the fact that technology layers mask the relationship of application workloads to the physical storage devices that support them. The broad adoption of disruptive technologies - including cloud, virtualization, mobility, software-defined data centers, and big data - have introduced new and more challenging requirements for enterprise IT. Find our more in this whitepaper.

Are Your Capacity Management Processes Fit for the Cloud Era?

Published By: VMTurbo     Published Date: Mar 25, 2015
An Intelligent Roadmap for Capacity Planning Many organizations apply overly simplistic principles to determine requirements for compute capacity in their virtualized data centers. These principles are based on a resource allocation model which takes the total amount of memory and CPU allocated to all virtual machines in a compute cluster, and assumes a defined level of over provisioning (e.g. 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, 12:1) in order to calculate the requirement for physical resources. Often managed in spreadsheets or simple databases, and augmented by simple alert-based monitoring tools, the resource allocation model does not account for actual resource consumption driven by each application workload running in the operational environment, and inherently corrodes the level of efficiency that can be driven from the underlying infrastructure.

Beyond Software: Agile for Product Development

Published By: IBM     Published Date: May 09, 2016
Agile methods have proven effective for software development and have grown in popularity across a number of software disciplines. Agile methods build capabilities using an iterative approach, as opposed to traditional approaches where requirements are defined early and designs are completed in full before a single line of code is written. Agile incrementally defines requirements with priorities, partial component designs and working systems that evolve through iterations called sprints. The question remains, however: Do the 12 agile principles apply to more than just software? Agile principles are in line with lean management’s approach. Given that, it seems as though agile principles should directly apply beyond software development. However, the answer is not straightforward, because differences between software and physical components affect how agile is applied. Let’s explore how agile can be applied in light of these differences.
