Secure the SaaS Tsunami

Published By: OneLogin     Published Date: Oct 24, 2017
SaaS has fundamentally changed security requirements. We used to just go into work, and everything—corporate applications, sensitive customer data, employee health records, etc.—was within the “safe” four walls of the corporate network behind a firewall. Now employees work remotely and use mobile devices, including unmanaged, personal devices. They access SaaS apps that live in the cloud without any sort of firewall that IT can use to monitor and manage access. Prominent examples include Salesforce.com, Google Apps, Office 365, Box, and many others. As employees use these SaaS apps, they are creating proprietary company data, often confidential in nature, that exists outside the control of IT, creating new challenges for security teams. In this new world, IT needs to track sensitive corporate data in third-party SaaS apps, and ensure that only the right people have the right level of access to it. In this whitepaper, we’ll explain ten steps on how to do that

Six Steps for Building a Robust Incident Response Function

Published By: Group M_IBM Q418     Published Date: Nov 01, 2018
Organizations globally realize that working only to prevent and detect cyberattacks will not protect them against cyber security threats. That is why IBM Resilient® was developed: to arm security teams with a platform for managing, coordinating, and streamlining incident response (IR) processes. IBM Security has had the privilege of working with organizations of all sizes and across all industries as they implement Resilient solutions to develop more sophisticated and robust incident response functions. The Path to Continuous Testing

Published By: Tricentis     Published Date: Aug 19, 2019
Let’s face it. Businesses don’t want—or need—perfect software. They want to deliver new, businessdifferentiating software as soon as possible. To enable this, we (Development and Testing teams) need fast feedback on whether the latest innovations will work as expected or crash and burn in production. We also need to know if these changes somehow broke the core functionality that the customer base—and thus the business—depends upon. This is where Continuous Testing comes in. Continuous Testing is the process of executing automated tests as part of the software delivery pipeline in order to obtain feedback on the business risks associated with a software release candidate as rapidly as possible.

Forrester Research on DevOps Quality Metrics that Matter

Published By: Tricentis     Published Date: Aug 19, 2019
The way that we develop and deliver software has changed dramatically in the past 5 years—but the metrics we use to measure quality remain largely the same. Despite seismic shifts in business expectations, development methodologies, system architectures, and team structures, most organizations still rely on quality metrics that were designed for a much different era. Every other aspect of application delivery has been scrutinized and optimized as we transform our processes for DevOps. Why not put quality metrics under the microscope as well? Are metrics like number of automated tests, test case coverage, and pass/fail rate important in the context of DevOps, where the goal is immediate insight into whether a given release candidate has an acceptable level of risk? What other metrics can help us ensure that the steady stream of updates don’t undermine the very user experience that we’re working so hard to enhance? To provide the DevOps community an objective perspective on what quality

How Dartmouth College improved its campus-wide Wi-Fi

Published By: Mist Systems     Published Date: Jun 19, 2019
With a surge of 25,000 devices and counting, Dartmouth College needed its new Wi-Fi to be fast, reliable and as smart as its students. In response, Dartmouth, based in Hanover, N.H., began deploying new campus-wide Wi-Fi from Mist Systems last summer. It expects to complete the project throughout the campus in three to five years, according to Bryan Ward, a network engineer at Dartmouth. The IT department manages the Wi-Fi through a cloudbased wireless LAN and can already see the benefits of better coverage and easier management. But the team faced difficulties when embedding the new system with Dartmouth's centuries-old campus architecture, which is less supportive of campus-wide Wi-Fi than modern architecture. The following interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Find IT Problems Before They Find You

Published By: ConnectWise     Published Date: Aug 22, 2019
At the end of the day, monitoring is all about finding problems before they cause issues for your users, and managing expectations when problems do crop up. Once critical and basic coverage is handled, start monitoring devices to keep everything tied together. If a switch, router, or hub goes down, or a printer starts having issues, you’ll know before the complaints start rolling in. When you automate recurring processes or tasks, your team can focus on delivering value instead of putting out fires.

This paper discusses: The impact the current approach to application security has on business How shifting security left in the application development process, seamlessly integrating it “early and often,” can accelerate innovation Questions the Board and C-suite are now asking about security: are you prepared? Read this paper to learn how, by shifting security left in the development process, it’s now no longer an obstacle to velocity, innovation and competitiveness. Instead, it’s an asset.

A Guide to Relentless Automation

Published By: Ahead     Published Date: Jun 05, 2019
Digital transformation will fail without a commitment to automation - what AHEAD refers to as Relentless Automation. With the advent of public cloud and all of its promise, along with the ripple effect from the DevOps mantra of “automate everywhere”, technology teams must spin up new infrastructure, maintain configurations, and set up and tear down environments much faster than ever before. Of course, no one should automate for the sake of automating, or to simply be ahead of the curve. But while not every activity warrants automation - whether due to the complexity and nuance of the task, or its infrequent occurrence - Relentless Automation means identifying those tasks and processes where the benefits of automation outweigh both its upfront and recurring costs. Thankfully, the business benefits of standardizing and automating IT work are easy to spot: > Freeing up staff for higher value work > Reduction in errors and process variability > More auditability and accountability, helping

Siloed and potentially distributed development and operations teams present organizational alignment problems. On top of this, users are more demanding than ever – enterprises need to scale effectively and monitor deployments to ensure customers are provided with high performance and a consistent experience. Of course, all this needs to be done while providing always-on service availability.
