Operational IT Service Management (ITSM)

Published By: HP     Published Date: Jul 29, 2008
This white paper explores the advantages of Operational ITSM- through incremental and continual improvement of service management practices on an ongoing basis. IT organizations must evolve into trusted service providers that adapt quickly, offer cost-effective, reliable, and flexible services to meet today's business initiatives. This evolution is not easy. It requires that the IT organization adopt an IT Service Management (ITSM) framework. Operational ITSM provides an incremental approach for companies that may not have the resources to finance and staff a large ITSM project.

Five Key Factors to Prepare Your WAN for Multicloud Connectivity

Published By: Equinix APAC     Published Date: Apr 22, 2019
To meet growing demand for multiple public cloud services, enterprises must shift away from an ad hoc approach of incrementally connecting to one cloud provider after another. For a more strategic approach, I&O leaders must weigh their cloud connectivity decision against five critical criteria.

The Hybrid Cloud: A PRAGMATIC VIEW OF ARCHITECTURES

Published By: Navisite- A Time Warner Cable Company     Published Date: Aug 07, 2013
However, risk-averse enterprise IT professionals are understandably cautious about simply moving their entire IT portfolio of resources and services into a 100-percent cloud architecture. As with most technology-adoption curves, enterprises have not embraced an “all-or-nothing” paradigm, instead preferring a pragmatic, “evolution, not revolution” approach of cautious incrementalism. This helps them account for their existing investments, custom work, business requirements, and risk posture. Not everything will move to the cloud – at least not in the foreseeable future. That’s why so many IT professionals advocate a so-called “hybrid” approach. But what do we mean by “hybrid” and how do we optimally balance the various components of a hybrid cloud architecture?

Agile Development – Why requirements matter

Published By: IBM     Published Date: May 09, 2016
The clear benefits of agile development—better collaboration, incremental delivery, early error detection and the elimination of unnecessary work—have made it the default approach for many teams. Agile methods are also being adopted by systems engineering teams to deliver the same benefits. Some developers have questioned whether requirements fall into the category of unnecessary work, and can be cut down or even completely eliminated. Meanwhile, teams developing complex products, systems and regulated IT continue to have requirements-driven legacy processes. So how does requirements management fit in an agile world? This paper argues that requirements management can bring significant value to agile development in regulated IT and complex product development projects, and sets out the characteristics of an effective requirements management approach in an agile environment.

Beyond Software: Agile for Product Development

Published By: IBM     Published Date: May 09, 2016
Agile methods have proven effective for software development and have grown in popularity across a number of software disciplines. Agile methods build capabilities using an iterative approach, as opposed to traditional approaches where requirements are defined early and designs are completed in full before a single line of code is written. Agile incrementally defines requirements with priorities, partial component designs and working systems that evolve through iterations called sprints. The question remains, however: Do the 12 agile principles apply to more than just software? Agile principles are in line with lean management’s approach. Given that, it seems as though agile principles should directly apply beyond software development. However, the answer is not straightforward, because differences between software and physical components affect how agile is applied. Let’s explore how agile can be applied in light of these differences.
