2018 Trends in Information Security

Published By: Dome9     Published Date: Apr 25, 2018
Last year at this time, we forecast a bumpy ride for infosec through 2017, as ransomware continued to wreak havoc and new threats emerged to target a burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT) landscape. ‘New IT’ concepts – from DevOps to various manifestations of the impact of cloud – seemed poised to both revolutionize and disrupt not only the implementation of security technology, but also the expertise required of security professionals as well. Our expectations for the coming year seem comparatively much more harmonious, as disruptive trends of prior years consolidate their gains. At center stage is the visibility wrought by advances in data science, which has given new life to threat detection and prevention – to the extent that we expect analytics to become a pervasive aspect of offerings throughout the security market in 2018. This visibility has unleashed the potential for automation to become more widely adopted, and not a moment too soon, given the scale and complexity of the thre

Preempt launches access control platform that bridges identity, behavior and risk

Published By: Preempt     Published Date: Nov 02, 2018
In our 2018 Trends in Information Security report, we outlined a concept we referred to as the ‘identity-aware perimeter.’ The essential idea is that as new architectures such as cloud, containers, mobility and IoT take hold, controlling access to resources will increasingly need to rely on identity as an alternative to purely network-based approaches focused more on ‘where’ you are than ‘who’ you are. By combining identity with user and entity behavior and risk scoring to gate access, Preempt fits squarely within this trend, which we think could be one of the most interesting and powerful to hit the infosec market in years. Preempt has few direct competitors, and its initial challenge will be finding ways to distinguish itself from vendors in adjacent categories such as adaptive multi-factor authentication (MFA), advanced threat protection, user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) and cloud access security brokers (CASB), to name a few. Forging a new security category is never easy,

Forrester - Why Data Center Modernization Is Critical To Business Success

Published By: Dell EMC Storage     Published Date: Aug 15, 2019
The digital era has ushered in a proliferation of data that powers modern businesses. When leveraged properly, organizations are seeing the potential of data to drive better outcomes across all aspects of their business. Using data to support different workflows, analytics, and activities transforms it into data capital — a digital asset that will drive value for the business. The extent to which an enterprise aligns its organization around this data capital mindset — in both the way they use data and the way they invest in data technology — can have lasting impacts on the success of the business. In February 2019, Dell EMC and Intel commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate whether the ability to harness and apply data and analytics at every opportunity is fast becoming a prerequisite for success. To test this, Forrester conducted a global survey of 516 IT decision makers. The survey found that companies with more mature data capital practices — leveraging more data types, managin

The Watson API Mashup Guide

Published By: IBM APAC     Published Date: Nov 22, 2017
A user initiates the call and selects the source language, such as Spanish. (In this example, assume that the target language is set to English.) As the user is talking to the support representative, the audio is converted to text using the Speech to Text service. Then using Language Translator, the text is translated to English. English language text is then sent to the Text to Speech service as input. The output audio message is what the support representative hears. All of this happens in near real time. The text from Speech to Text and the Language Translator service also can be stored in a database for analytics. The same process is repeated in reverse for the audio message sent by support personnel.

Manufacturing Intelligence: Keep Your Processes Under Control

Published By: TIBCO Software GmbH     Published Date: Jan 15, 2019
The current trend in manufacturing is towards tailor-made products in smaller lots with shorter delivery times. This change may lead to frequent production modifications resulting in increased machine downtime, higher production cost, product waste—and no need to rework faulty products. To satisfy the customer demand behind this trend, manufacturers must move quickly to new production models. Quality assurance is the key area that IT must support. At the same time, the traceability of products becomes central to compliance as well as quality. Traceability can be achieved by interconnecting data sources across the factory, analyzing historical and streaming data for insights, and taking immediate action to control the entire end-to-end process. Doing so can lead to noticeable cost reductions, and gains in efficiency, process reliability, and speed of new product delivery. Additionally, analytics helps manufacturers find the best setups for machinery.

Manufacturing Intelligence for the Next Industrial Revolution (Whitepaper)

Published By: TIBCO Software GmbH     Published Date: Jan 22, 2019
The Internet of Things (IoT) didn’t just connect everything everywhere; It laid the groundwork for the next industrial revolution. Connected devices sending data was only one achievement of the IoT—but one that helped solve the problem of data spread across countless silos that was not collected because it was too voluminous and/or too expensive to analyze. Now, with advances in cloud computing and analytics, cheaper and more scalable factory solutions are available. This, in combination with the cost and size of sensors continuously being reduced, supplies the other achievement: the possibility for every organization to digitally transform. Using a Smart Factory system, all relevant data is aggregated, analyzed, and acted upon. Sensors, devices, people, and processes are part of a connected ecosystem providing: • Reduced downtime • Minimized surplus and defects • Deep insights • End-to-end real-time visibility

Data Visualization Techniques From Basics to Big Data With SAS Visual Analytics

Published By: SAS     Published Date: Nov 04, 2015
If you are working with massive amounts of data, one challenge is how to display results of data exploration and analysis in a way that is not overwhelming. You may need a new way to look at the data – one that collapses and condenses the results in an intuitive fashion but still displays graphs and charts that decision makers are accustomed to seeing. And, in today’s on-the-go society, you may also need to make the results available quickly via mobile devices, and provide users with the ability to easily explore data on their own in real time. SAS® Visual Analytics is a data visualization and business intelligence solution that uses intelligent autocharting to help business analysts and nontechnical users visualize data. It creates the best possible visual based on the data that is selected. The visualizations make it easy to see patterns and trends and identify opportunities for further analysis.

Enabling Small and Midsize Businesses to Acquire and Retain Customers in an Evolving Digital World

Published By: HPE     Published Date: Mar 23, 2015
With new technologies, new opportunities often emerge, especially in business. The advent of innovations, such as social media and mobile devices, is changing the ways businesses interact with customers and the ways in which customers desire to be engaged. Opportunities arising from the benefits of salesforce automation, business intelligence (BI), and customer relationship management (CRM) applications are providing new levels of insight, helping businesses acquire customers more efficiently and retain those customers longer. As a direct result, organizations that invest in better understanding potential customers are likely to see higher returns than those organizations that possess a more limited understanding of their customer base. Seeking the competitive advantage resulting from improved customer focus, IT organizations have increased investment in business intelligence and analytics and the underlying infrastructure to support those applications.
