Leicestershire County Council

Published By: Viavi Solutions     Published Date: Sep 30, 2016
Located in the English Midlands, the Leicestershire County Council enjoys a strong national reputation for doing things differently and achieving results. In 2009, it was named Council of the Year - the first County Council to achieve such an accolade and despite the tough economic climate, it continues to deliver high-quality services to the people of Leicestershire. Seen as a trailblazer in many areas, the Leicestershire County Council leads the way in working with troubled families. In partnership with the National Health Service, police, district councils, and others, the council has provided services for these families in need, while cutting bureaucracy and reducing costs. Like most public services, Leicestershire County Council has faced the ongoing financial challenge of government funding reductions. As a result, the council has taken early action to find efficiency savings and new ways of working.

On the road to Smart Machines… How OEMs can improve the energy efficiency of machines

Published By: Schneider Electric     Published Date: May 03, 2018
While many OEMs are aware of new technologies to make machines more energy-efficient, they are reluctant to make changes due to the perception that it will make their machines more expensive to sell. The constraints of cost reduction, usage of resources and energy reduction are becoming key drivers in the industry as consumers require manufacturers to be more “green”. This paper demonstrates how incorporating sustainable design can add value to their machines and differentiate OEMs from the competition.

Prefabricated Data Centers: Business Advantages for Colocation Providers

Published By: Schneider Electric     Published Date: Jun 07, 2019
New digital technology now makes it feasible to integrate process control and SIF within a common automation infrastructure. While this can provide productivity and asset management benefits, if not done correctly, it can also compromise the safety and security of an industrial operation. Cybersecurity and sabotage vulnerability further accentuate the need for securing the safety instrumented system (SIS). Certainly, a common platform approach using similar hardware and software dedicated for control and safety functions, respectively, can provide the potential for cost savings. However, it is widely acknowledged that utilizing separate, independent, and diverse hardware/software for safety and control is the optimal way to protect against potentially catastrophic common cause and systematic design and application errors. Different vendors offer varied degrees of integration and solutions. The question is: how to provide an integrated control and safety solution with advanced functionality and productivity without compromising safety and security? And, where do users draw the line? A third-party (e.g., TÜV) certification of the hardware/software systems to IEC 61508 specifications carries significant advantages, but should this be the only criterion? How does a third-party certificate extend to the plant’s overall assignment of risk reduction credits for all independent protection layers (IPL)? Control system embedded safety logic solvers may actually increase the SIL requirements of the SIF if no credit is allowed for the distributed control system (DCS) as an IPL. Download the white paper to learn more.

How Better Management of Printing Can Create Business Value

Published By: Quocirca     Published Date: Feb 20, 2008
Whilst many organizations have invested resources in managing their IT infrastructure, few apply the same strategic focus to the document output environment. This can represent a huge cost drain, estimated to represent between 1% and 3% of total revenue. A managed and optimized print environment will lead to significant cost reductions whilst improving productivity and boosting any organization’s green credentials.

Dell EMC: Future-Proof Infrastructure

Published By: Dell EMC Storage     Published Date: Nov 28, 2018
As IT demands mount, IT organizations simply no longer have the luxury of spending resources to verify every vendor promise. Systems just need to work, while delivering a future free from costly data migrations. As a response, IT vendors have begun to offer guarantees in performance, guarantees in data reduction rates, guarantees in data deduplication, or free upgrades. These programs, however, are often limited to a single storage or data protection product offering, typically with all-flash technology. Dell EMC solutions, powered by Intel® Xeon® processor goes one step further with a program that delivers a future-proof infrastructure promise that extends to its larger storage, hyperconverged, and data protection portfolio and provides support across both generational and architectural transitions.
