A New Mandate for IAM with Multifactor Authentication

Published By: OKTA     Published Date: Sep 26, 2017
Cyberbreaches aren’t just in the news—they are the news. Yet headlines rarely mention the No. 1 source of those breaches: weak or stolen passwords. Whether they involve malware, hacking, phishing, or social engineering, the vast majority of breaches begin with account compromise and credential theft, followed by dormant lateral network movement and data exfiltration. In fact, weak or stolen passwords account for a staggering 81% of breaches, according to the Verizon 2017 Data Breach Investigations Report. Not surprisingly, a new Okta-sponsored IDG survey finds that identity access management (IAM) is a top priority for nearly three-quarters (74%) of IT and security leaders. Yet the same survey uncovers widespread concern that their current IAM implementations are falling short. Just one worrisome example: Fewer than one-third (30%) of respondents report a good or better ability to detect a compromise of credentials. The following report explores the gap between respondents’ aspiratio

Secure the SaaS Tsunami

Published By: OneLogin     Published Date: Oct 24, 2017
SaaS has fundamentally changed security requirements. We used to just go into work, and everything—corporate applications, sensitive customer data, employee health records, etc.—was within the “safe” four walls of the corporate network behind a firewall. Now employees work remotely and use mobile devices, including unmanaged, personal devices. They access SaaS apps that live in the cloud without any sort of firewall that IT can use to monitor and manage access. Prominent examples include Salesforce.com, Google Apps, Office 365, Box, and many others. As employees use these SaaS apps, they are creating proprietary company data, often confidential in nature, that exists outside the control of IT, creating new challenges for security teams. In this new world, IT needs to track sensitive corporate data in third-party SaaS apps, and ensure that only the right people have the right level of access to it. In this whitepaper, we’ll explain ten steps on how to do that

Modern Identity

Published By: OneLogin     Published Date: Oct 24, 2017
We’re living through a time where people, organizations and societies not only rely but thrive upon secure, simple and fast access to information. From small businesses, startups, enterprises and global conglomerates across all verticals; to local, state and federal governments; to educational institutions and nonprofits, we are continuously investing in our employees, devices, applications, networks and infrastructure that enable us to drive our collective missions forward. Ten years ago, business and technology leaders catalyzed a cloud app revolution that has changed the way organizations manage IT. However, through this transformative shift, the core requirements of IT remain the same. Technology leaders are responsible for ensuring that 1) information assets remain confidential and protected, 2) information systems are available and operational, and 3) people are empowered and productive with the apps and information they need. IAM is a technology and security discipline that has

Wikibon Report: Encrypting Oracle Workloads becomes Cost-effective and Mandatory

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
Security has become top of mind for CIOs, and CEOs. Encryption at rest is a piece of the solution, but not a big piece. Encryption over the network is another piece, but only a small piece. These and other pieces do not fit together well; they need to unencrypt and reencrypt the data when they move through the layers, leaving clear versions that create complex operational issues to monitor and detect intrusion. Larger-scale high-value applications requiring high security often use Oracle middleware, including Java and Oracle database. Traditional security models give the data to the processors to encrypt and unencrypt, often many times. The overhead is large, and as a result encryption is used sparingly on only a few applications. The risk to enterprises is that they may have created an illusion of security, which in reality is ripe for exploitation. The modern best-practice security model is an end-to-end encryption architecture. The application deploys application-led encryption s

Key Findings on Endpoint Security and Real-Time Prevention featuring Forrester

Published By: Palo Alto Networks     Published Date: Feb 24, 2016
The threat landscape has evolved and the traditional approach to endpoint security cannot keep up. Detection/response is not an acceptable approach. There are a number of approaches to prevent threats on the endpoint and their ability to prevent unknown and zero-day threats varies widely. Join this webinar featuring a guest speaker from Forrester where we will discuss the findings from a recent commissioned survey they conducted that evaluates these approaches and illustrates that exploit prevention and integration with a network security platform are must-have capabilities. Forrester will also summarize their recommendations for prevention of advanced threats on the endpoint.

Understanding the Role of Stolen Credentials in Data Breaches

Published By: Palo Alto Networks     Published Date: Apr 25, 2017
Security practitioners and threat actors are constantly developing new techniques to gain advantages over the other. In recent years, security teams have stepped up their approaches to protecting their infrastructure by fortifying their network perimeter defenses, building up protections against advanced malware, upgrading vulnerable operating systems, automating the delivery of patches to stop exploits, and developing counter-measures to spot intruders. The threat actors looking to circumvent these measures are shifting their attention toward the next weakest link in the security chain – the user.
