Maximizing the value of your data privacy investments Data Privacy Benchmark Study

Published By: Cisco EMEA     Published Date: Mar 26, 2019
Most organizations have invested, and continue to invest, in people, processes, technology, and policies to meet customer privacy requirements and avoid significant fines and other penalties. In addition, data breaches continue to expose the personal information of millions of people, and organizations are concerned about the products they buy, services they use, people they employ, and with whom they partner and do business with generally. As a result, customers are asking more questions during the buying cycle about how their data is captured, used, transferred, shared, stored, and destroyed. In last year’s study (Cisco 2018 Privacy Maturity Benchmark Study), Cisco introduced data and insights regarding how these privacy concerns were negatively impacting the buying cycle and timelines. This year’s research updates those findings and explores the benefits associated with privacy investment. Cisco’s Data Privacy Benchmark Study utilizes data from Cisco’s Annual Cybersecurity Benchma

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Jun 20, 2016
Research conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), sponsored by Oracle, provides answers. The results show that a proactive security strategy backed by a fully engaged C-suite and board of directors reduced the growth of cyber-attacks and breaches by 53% over comparable firms. These findings were compiled from responses by 300 firms, across multiple industries, against a range of attack modes and over a two-year period from February 2014 to January 2016. The lessons are clear. As cyber-attackers elevate their game, the response must be an enterprise solution. Only C-suites and boards of directors marshal the authority and resources to support a truly enterprise-wide approach. In sum, proactive cyber-security strategies, supported by senior management, can cut vulnerability to cyber-attack in half.

Fastest Speed, Highest Security: The Co-engineering of Oracle's New M8 Systems

Published By: Oracle CX     Published Date: Oct 19, 2017
Oracle has just announced a new microprocessor, and the servers and engineered system that are powered by it. The SPARC M8 processor fits in the palm of your hand, but it contains the result of years of co-engineering of hardware and software together to run enterprise applications with unprecedented speed and security. The SPARC M8 chip contains 32 of today’s most powerful cores for running Oracle Database and Java applications. Benchmarking data shows that the performance of these cores reaches twice the performance of Intel’s x86 cores. This is the result of exhaustive work on designing smart execution units and threading architecture, and on balancing metrics such as core count, memory and IO bandwidth. It also required millions of hours in testing chip design and operating system software on real workloads for database and Java. Having faster cores means increasing application capability while keeping the core count and software investment under control. In other words, a boost

Software in Silicon: What It Does and Why

Published By: Oracle CX     Published Date: Oct 19, 2017
The Software in Silicon design of the SPARC M7 processor, and the recently announced SPARC S7 processor, implement memory access validation directly into the processor so that you can protect application data that resides in memory. It also includes on-chip Data Analytics Accelerator (DAX) engines that are specifically designed to accelerate analytic functions. The DAX engines make in-memory databases and applications run much faster, plus they significantly increase usable memory capacity by allowing compressed databases to be stored in memory without a performance penalty. The following Software in Silicon technologies are implemented in the SPARC S7 and M7 processors: Note: Security in Silicon encompasses both Silicon Secured Memory and cryptographic instruction acceleration, whereas SQL in Silicon includes In-Memory Query Acceleration and In-Line Decompression. Silicon Secured Memory is the first-ever end-to-end implementation of memory-access validation done in hardware. It

Eddison White Paper: Advantages & Efficiencies of Oracle SPARC S7 Server Over Commodity Alternatives

Published By: Oracle CX     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
This whitepaper explores the new SPARC S7 server features and then compares this offering to a similar x86 offering. The key characteristics of the SPARC S7 to be highlighted are: ? Designed for scale-out and cloud infrastructures ? SPARC S7 processor with greater core performance than the latest Intel Xeon E5 processor ? Software in Silicon which offers hardware-based features such as data acceleration and security The SPARC S7 is then compared to a similar x86 solution from three different perspectives, namely performance, risk and cost. Performance matters as business markets are driving IT to provide an environment that: ? Continuously provides real-time results. ? Processes more complex workload stacks. ? Optimizes usage of per-core software licenses. Risk matters today and into the foreseeable future, as challenges to secure systems and data are becoming more frequent and invasive from within and from outside. Wikibon Report: Encrypting Oracle Workloads becomes Cost-effective and Mandatory

Published By: Oracle CX     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
Security has become top of mind for CIOs, and CEOs. Encryption at rest is a piece of the solution, but not a big piece. Encryption over the network is another piece, but only a small piece. These and other pieces do not fit together well; they need to unencrypt and reencrypt the data when they move through the layers, leaving clear versions that create complex operational issues to monitor and detect intrusion. Larger-scale high-value applications requiring high security often use Oracle middleware, including Java and Oracle database. Traditional security models give the data to the processors to encrypt and unencrypt, often many times. The overhead is large, and as a result encryption is used sparingly on only a few applications. The risk to enterprises is that they may have created an illusion of security, which in reality is ripe for exploitation. The modern best-practice security model is an end-to-end encryption architecture. The application deploys application-led encryption s

The Treacherous 12: Top Threats to Cloud Computing + Industry Insights

Published By: Dome9     Published Date: Apr 25, 2018
At an unprecedented pace, cloud computing has simultaneously transformed business and government, and created new security challenges. The development of the cloud service model delivers business-supporting technology more efficiently than ever before. The shift from server to service-based thinking is transforming the way technology departments think about, design, and deliver computing technology and applications. Yet these advances have created new security vulnerabilities as well as amplify existing vulnerabilities, including security issues whose full impact are finally being understood. Among the most significant security risks associated with cloud computing is the tendency to bypass information technology (IT) departments and information officers. Although shifting to cloud technologies exclusively may provide cost and efficiency gains, doing so requires that business-level security policies, processes, and best practices are taken into account. In the absence of these standard

Digital Controllers Optimize, Digital Transformers Innovate

Published By: Dell EMC EMEA     Published Date: Nov 26, 2018
In December 2017, Dell commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a study to determine how enterprise organizations are structured from an IT departmental perspective. The study explored two types of IT: digital controllers and digital transformers; and the trends and challenges seen in PC provisioning. Digital controllers are often associated with top-down approach, linear structure, and emphasize security and accuracy. In contrast, digital transformers focus on innovation, employee-and customer-centricity, and prioritize speed and flexibility. By understanding the two groups, enterprises can overcome challenges that arise from PC life-cycle management. By investing in existing PC management tools and partnering with a company that specializes in PC deployment and management, firms can empower employees to better serve customers Learn more about Dell solutions powered by Intel®.

How the Rapid Adoption of Public Clouds Is Affecting Cybersecurity

Published By: Fortinet EMEA     Published Date: Nov 26, 2018
Companies are increasingly moving data and applications to public cloud platforms. Sometimes these transitions happen with IT’s approval and guidance; sometimes they don’t. Regardless, a company that stores data and uses applications in multiple public clouds creates a challenging environment for the security architect. It’s difficult to gain visibility and control of the security posture when the organization relies on an assortment of disparate cloud platforms that all take different approaches to security and offer different tools. And it’s hard for a small security staff to stay on top of disparate solutions that fail to integrate.
