Whitepaper: Demonstrating SD-WAN Business Value with ESG

Published By: VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud     Published Date: May 21, 2019
For many organizations, the wide area network (WAN) infrastructure that connects an enterprise’s remote and branch offices has not changed for decades. Over the years, organizations consolidated many regional data centers into a few highly available data center locations which meant that remote locations had to connect to centralized applications over WANs and all internet traffic went through these data centers as well. This introduced bandwidth constraints and latency issues. The development in WAN optimization provided incremental and measurable improvement in WAN performance and provided some bandwidth cost containment. However, that technology typically was only deployed at the most problematic sites that struggled to achieve acceptable levels of performance and user experience. It did not solve all the issues with WAN connectivity. WAN infrastructure planning was limited to increases in capacity that were met by provisioning additional carrier MPLS (multiprotocol label switching)

Cisco Intelligent WAN Design Guide Summary

Published By: Cisco     Published Date: Apr 10, 2015
The Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN) solution provides design and implementation guidance for organizations looking to deploy wide area network (WAN) transport with a transport-independent design (TID), intelligent path control, application optimization, and secure encrypted communications between branch locations while reducing the operating cost of the WAN. IWAN takes full advantage of cost-effective transport services in order to increase bandwidth capacity without compromising performance, reliability, or security of collaboration or cloud-based applications.

Performance Benefits and Best-Practices for EMC Recover Point and Riverbed WAN Optimization

Published By: Riverbed     Published Date: Aug 22, 2014
The performance of RecoverPoint continuous remote replication can be impacted by characteristics common to wide-area networks, including packet loss, latency and limited bandwidth. SteelHead WAN optimization appliances can be leveraged to overcome the negative effects of these impairments, delivering LAN-like performance for RecoverPoint and all other business applications traversing the WAN. In this paper you will learn about performance benefits of the combined EMC RecoverPoint and Riverbed SteelHead solution, as measured through collaborative testing from EMC and Riverbed.

Wide Area File Services: Document Collaboration for the Distributed Business Environment

Published By: Globalscape     Published Date: Mar 21, 2014
This paper outlines the essential requirements for file sharing across a wide-area network (WAN), and briefly discusses the limitations of appliance-based WAN optimization when applied specifically to document collaboration. The paper uses a solution analysis to compare common business needs to required features, and explains how appliance-based optimization falls short of these needs. The paper then describes how Globalscape's software-only solution. (WAFS) provides file replication and collaboration across globally dispersed networks, securely and reliably, with the performance of local file sharing.
