The IT Leader’s Guide to Eliminating Oracle Database Data Loss

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
Your enterprise runs its critical applications on Oracle Databases, and as an enterprise IT leader, maintaining the performance and availability of your databases is among your top priorities. Any degradation in performance or loss of data could result in serious business disruption and loss of revenue, so protecting this vital asset is a must. There are many causes of data loss— administration errors, system or media failures, cyberattacks, and more—but we often overlook design flaws in the very systems meant to protect data: general-purpose backup systems. Many existing data protection solutions fail to meet the demands of critical databases because they treat them as generic files to copy as opposed to specialized resources. Taking a generic approach to database backup and recovery not only exposes you to the risk of data loss, it also negatively impacts performance and makes it difficult to recover within acceptable timeframes.

Database Protection for Dummies

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
Traditional backup systems fail to meet the needs of modern organizations by focusing on backup, not recovery. They treat databases as generic files to be copied, rather than as transactional workloads with specific data integrity, consistency, performance, and availability requirements. Additionally, highly regulated industries, such as financial services, are subject to ever?increasing regulatory mandates that require stringent protection against data breaches, data loss, malware, ransomware, and other risks. These risks require fiduciary?class data recovery to eliminate data loss exposure and ensure data integrity and compliance

ESG Lab Report Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance from Oracle

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Oct 20, 2017
ESG Lab evaluated the Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance from Oracle with a focus on its ability to deliver reliable data protection by recovering Oracle databases to any point in time with sub-second RPO in a highly scalable scale-out solution that is easy to use and manage. Year after year, ESG respondents consistently cite improving data backup and recovery among the top IT priorities in our annual spending intentions survey (including 2016’s iteration). Why? Because when unforeseen infrastructure failures or data corruptions occur, the ability to restore not only business-critical information but also application and end-user access to that information become paramount. Lost or prolonged inaccessibility to business-critical data and applications most often means lost revenue and productivity to the business, and possibly the inability to meet regulatory requirements.

Halving Downtime Costs for Mission Critical Apps

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Aug 09, 2018
The purpose of IT backup and recovery systems is to avoid data loss and recover quickly, thereby minimizing downtime costs. Traditional storage-centric data protection architectures such as Purpose Built Backup Appliances (PBBAs), and the conventional backup and restore processing supporting them, are prone to failure on recovery. This is because the processes, both automated and manual, are too numerous, too complex, and too difficult to test adequately. In turn this leads to unacceptable levels of failure for today’s mission critical applications, and a poor foundation for digital transformation initiatives. Governments are taking notice. Heightened regulatory compliance requirements have implications for data recovery processes and are an unwelcome but timely catalyst for companies to get their recovery houses in order. Onerous malware, such as ransomware and other cyber attacks increase the imperative for organizations to have highly granular recovery mechanisms in place that allow

Oracle's Recovery Appliance Reduces Complexity Through Automation

Published By: Oracle     Published Date: Jan 28, 2019
Traditionally, the best practice for mission-critical Oracle Database backup and recovery was to use storage-led, purpose-built backup appliances (PBBAs) such as Data Domain, integrated with RMAN, Oracle’s automated backup and recovery utility. This disk-based backup approach solved two problems: 1) It enabled faster recovery (from disk versus tape) 2) It increased recovery flexibility by storing many more backups online, enabling restoration from that data to recover production databases; and provisioning copies for test/dev. At its core, however, this approach remains a batch process that involves many dozens of complicated steps for backups and even more steps for recovery. Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (RA) customers report that total cost of ownership (TCO) and downtime costs (e.g. lost revenue due to database or application downtime) are significantly reduced due to the simplification and, where possible, the automation of the backup and recovery process.
