Three Innovations that Define a “Next-Generation Global Transit Hub"

Published By: Aviatrix     Published Date: Jun 11, 2018
Join Aviatrix for a discussion of next-generation transit hubs that are purpose-built to treat the network as code, rather than as a virtualized instance of a data center router. Learn how a software-defined approach can transform your AWS transit hub design from a legacy architecture exercise into a strategic infrastructure initiative that doesn’t require you to descend into the command-line interface and BGP of the IT networking world. As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei and Neel Kamal, head of field operations at Aviatrix share the requirements that our most successful customers have insisted upon for their Global Transit Networks, and demonstrate the key features that deliver on those requirements. Successful Network Operations in a Cloud-Centric, Software-Defined World

Published By: CA Technologies EMEA     Published Date: Sep 11, 2018
The advent of cloud computing and software-defined data center architectures for modern application delivery has made networking more sensitive than ever before. Applications in the digital age require networks that can expand and contract dynamically based on consumer demand. Enterprises are implementing software-defined networking (SDN) to deliver the automation required by these new environments, but the dynamic nature of SDN makes network management and monitoring fundamentally more challenging. Network infrastructure teams need monitoring tools that can provide visibility into these new and constantly changing networks. This white paper explores the importance of SDN monitoring and examines a leading example of a solution, CA Performance Management with CA Virtual Network Assurance integration.

The Rise Of The Protection Storage Architecture

Published By: CDW     Published Date: Sep 10, 2014
Leading organizations don’t think of data protection in traditional back-office terms—and that’s no accident. They think and act like service providers, and in doing so transform data protection operations from mere cost centers to business enablers. Traditional data protection architectures can’t meet today’s challenges of massive growth, application performance, and data availability. And they aren't designed for services-oriented business models.

Analysis of Data Center Architectures Supporting Open Compute Project (OCP)

Published By: CDW     Published Date: Apr 04, 2016
Open Compute has had a significant impact on the thinking about data center design. Until now, the focus has been on systems at the rack level, leaving unanswered questions about the power infrastructure upstream of the rack. In this paper, we address critical questions about the implications of Open Compute on the upstream power infrastructure, including redundancy, availability, and flexibility. We introduce simplified reference designs that support OCP and provide a capital cost analysis to compare traditional and OCP-based designs. We also present an online TradeOff Tool that allows data center decision makers to better understand the cost differences and cost drivers to various architectures.

Quantitative Analysis of a Prefabricated vs. Traditional Data Center

Published By: CDW     Published Date: Apr 04, 2016
Prefabricated modular data centers offer many advantages over traditionally built data centers, including flexibility, improved predictability, and faster speed of deployment. Cost , however, is sometimes stated as a barrier to deploying these designs. In this paper, we focus on quantifying the capital cost differences of a prefabricated vs. traditional 440 kW data center, both built with the same power and cooling architecture, in order to highlight the key cost drivers, and to demonstrate that prefabrication does not come at a capex premium . The analysis was completed and validated with Romonet’s Cloud-based Analytics Platform, a vendor-neutral industry resource.

A Data Center Fabric Is Critical to a Next-Generation Data Center

Published By: Cisco     Published Date: Jan 05, 2015
The data center has gone through many major evolutionary changes over the past several decades, and each change has been defined by major shifts in architectures. The industry moved from the mainframe era to client/server computing and then to Internet computing. In 2011, another major shift began: the shift to a virtual data center. This has been the primary driver in enabling customers to transition to the cloud and ultimately IT as a service. The shift to a virtual data center will be the single biggest transition in the history of computing. It will reshape all the major data center tiers: applications, storage, servers and the network.
