Insiders are Still the Weakest Link in your Data Security Chain

Published By: Absolute Software     Published Date: May 31, 2016
With companies embracing mobility to maintain competitive advantage in the digital era, information security threats have increased exponentially. Userfriendly technologies such as mobile devices, mobile apps, and cloud storage are often hacker-friendly too, creating opportunities for cybercriminals to covertly infiltrate company data. This opens the door to data loss, reputational damage, loss of proprietary information – not to mention the associated regulatory penalties and potential legal fees. IT bears the brunt of responsibility for information security, yet according to Forrester, internal incidents top the list of security breach causes in 2014.

Driving SAP Performance with Amazon EC2 X1 and X1e Instances and Intel® Xeon Processors

Published By: Amazon Web Services     Published Date: Apr 16, 2018
Since SAP introduced its in-memory database, SAP HANA, customers have significantly accelerated everything from their core business operations to big data analytics. But capitalizing on SAP HANA’s full potential requires computational power and memory capacity beyond the capabilities of many existing data center platforms. To ensure that deployments in the AWS Cloud could meet the most stringent SAP HANA demands, AWS collaborated with SAP and Intel to deliver the Amazon EC2 X1 and X1e instances, part of the Amazon EC2 Memory-Optimized instance family. With four Intel® Xeon® E7 8880 v3 processors (which can power 128 virtual CPUs), X1 offers more memory than any other SAP-certified cloud native instance available today.

Optimizing Amazon Redshift, A Real-World Guide

Published By: Amazon Web Services     Published Date: Sep 05, 2018
Just as Amazon Web Services (AWS) has transformed IT infrastructure to something that can be delivered on demand, scalably, quickly, and cost-effectively, Amazon Redshift is doing the same for data warehousing and big data analytics. Redshift offers a massively parallel columnar data store that can be spun up in just a few minutes to deal with billions of rows of data at a cost of just a few cents an hour. It’s designed for speed and ease of use — but to realize all of its potential benefits, organizations still have to configure Redshift for the demands of their particular applications. Whether you’ve been using Redshift for a while, have just implemented it, or are still evaluating it as one of many cloud-based data warehouse and business analytics technology options, your organization needs to understand how to configure it to ensure it delivers the right balance of performance, cost, and scalability for your particular usage scenarios. Since starting to work with this technolog

Causes of Zero Offset in Acceleration Data Acquired While Measuring Severe Shock

Published By: ASME     Published Date: Oct 03, 2019
One of the most frustrating aspects of the measurement of severe pyroshock events is the acceleration offset that almost invariably occurs. Dependent on its magnitude, this can result in large, low-frequency errors in both shock response spectra (SRS) and velocity-based damage analyses. Fortunately, recent developments in accelerometer technology, signal conditioning, and data acquisition systems have reduced these errors significantly. Best practices have been demonstrated to produce offset errors less than 0.25% of Peak-Peak value in measured near-field pyrotechnic accelerations: a remarkable achievement. This paper will discuss the sensing technologies, including both piezoelectric and piezoresistive, that have come together to minimize these offsets. More important, it will document the many other potential contributors to these offsets. Included among these are accelerometer mounting issues, cable and connector sources, signal conditioning amplitude range/bandwidth, and digitizi

Published By: AWS     Published Date: Nov 14, 2018
Amazon Redshift Spectrum—a single service that can be used in conjunction with other Amazon services and products, as well as external tools—is revolutionizing the way data is stored and queried, allowing for more complex analyses and better decision making. Spectrum allows users to query very large datasets on S3 without having to load them into Amazon Redshift. This helps address the Scalability Dilemma—with Spectrum, data storage can keep growing on S3 and still be processed. By utilizing its own compute power and memory, Spectrum handles the hard work that would normally be done by Amazon Redshift. With this service, users can now scale to accommodate larger amounts of data than the cluster would have been capable of processing with its own resources. This e-book aims to provide you with expert tips on how to use Amazon Redshift Spectrum to increase performance and potentially reduce the cost of your queries.

Gartner Reprint: Redefine Data Loss Prevention

Published By: Carbonite     Published Date: Oct 10, 2018
Overview Key Challenges Organizations still struggle with communication between data owners and those responsible for administering DLP systems, leading to technology-driven — rather than business-driven — implementations. Many clients who deploy enterprise DLP systems struggle to get out of the initial phases of discovering and monitoring data flows, never realizing the potential benefits of deeper data analytics or applying appropriate data protections. DLP as a technology has a reputation of being a high-maintenance control — incomplete deployments are common, tuning is a never-ending process, lack of organization buy-in is low, and calculations of ROI are complex.
