State of The Internet/Security

Published By: Akamai Technologies     Published Date: May 07, 2018
2017 was a momentous year in security, even though the DDoS landscape appeared to plateau. Maybe it was because Mirai hit so hard at the end of 2016 and the owners of other botnets were retooling to catch up. Maybe it was because news of large data breaches captured so many headlines, drawing the attention of both criminals and the public. Or maybe it is simply due to the cyclical nature of attack popularity that we have seen in the past. No matter the cause, our prediction is that the trend won’t continue in 2018, and it is not time to be complacent. The Mirai botnet is far from played out, as botnet creators are continuing to modify the source code for their individual needs and, with more connected platforms devices than ever, the Internet will continue to offer fertile ground for largescale attacks.

Gigaom Analyst Report: The Power of Hadoop as a Service

Published By: Altiscale     Published Date: Mar 30, 2015
This industry analyst report describes important considerations when planning a Hadoop implementation. While some companies have the skill and the will to build, operate, and maintain large Hadoop clusters of their own, a growing number are choosing not to make investments in-house and are looking to the cloud. In this report Gigaom Research explores: • How large Hadoop clusters behave differently from the small groups of machines developers typically use to learn • What models are available for running a Hadoop cluster, and which is best for specific situations • What are the costs and benefits of using Hadoop-as-a-Service With Hadoop delivered as a Service from trusted providers such as Altiscale, companies are able to focus less on managing and optimizing Hadoop and more on the business insights Hadoop can deliver.

Amazon Redshift Spectrum: expert tips for maximizing the power of Spectrum

Published By: Amazon Web Services     Published Date: Sep 05, 2018
Amazon Redshift Spectrum—a single service that can be used in conjunction with other Amazon services and products, as well as external tools—is revolutionizing the way data is stored and queried, allowing for more complex analyses and better decision making. Spectrum allows users to query very large datasets on S3 without having to load them into Amazon Redshift. This helps address the Scalability Dilemma—with Spectrum, data storage can keep growing on S3 and still be processed. By utilizing its own compute power and memory, Spectrum handles the hard work that would normally be done by Amazon Redshift. With this service, users can now scale to accommodate larger amounts of data than the cluster would have been capable of processing with its own resources.

How to Build (and scale) with Microservices

Published By: AppDynamics     Published Date: Sep 20, 2017
Larger organizations run into problems when monolithic architectures cannot be scaled, upgraded or maintained easily as they grow over time. Microservices architecture is an answer to that problem. It is a software architecture where complex tasks are broken down into small processes that operate independently and communicate through language-agnostic APIs.

Microservices: The Evolution of Building Modern Applications

Published By: AstuteIT_ABM_EMEA     Published Date: Feb 02, 2018
As enterprises work to replicate the development agility of internet companies and innovate in highly competitive markets, application development has grown increasingly complex. The large, monolithic codebases that traditionally power enterprise applications make it difficult to quickly launch new services. Siloed and potentially distributed development and operations teams present organizational alignment problems. On top of this, users are more demanding than ever – enterprises need to scale effectively and monitor deployments to ensure customers are provided with high performance and a consistent experience. Of course, all this needs to be done while providing always-on service availability.

Making Work Human: 5 Challenges Report

Published By: Automation Anywhere     Published Date: Jul 16, 2019
The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has shown incredible promise across a wide range of industries. But the benefits of automation have mostly occurred through Robotic Process Automation (RPA), which automates repetitive, mundane tasks – liberating workers to focus on higher-level business initiatives that only humans are capable of providing. After successful trials in most of the world’s largest organizations, automation and AI are poised to transform the global workplace. Making Work Human: 5 Challenges, research by Goldsmiths, University of London, supported by Automation Anywhere, seeks to uncover the main obstacles that organizations must now overcome in order to scale automation and AI, and recognize the true potential of these ground-breaking technologies.

Simplifying large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) device deployments

Published By: AWS     Published Date: Jul 16, 2018
The Internet of Things (IoT) is composed of sensor-embedded devices and machines that exchange data with each other and the cloud through a secure network. Often referred to as “things” or “edge devices”, these intelligent machines connect to the internet either directly or through an IoT gateway, enabling them to send data to the cloud. Analyzing this data can reveal valuable insights about these objects and the business processes they’re part of, helping enterprises optimize their operations. Devices in IoT deployments can span nearly any industry or use case. Each one is equipped with sensors, processing power, connectivity, and software, enabling asset control and other remote interactions over the internet. Unlike traditional IT assets, these edge devices are resource-constrained (either by bandwidth, storage, or processing power) and are typically found outside of a data center, creating unique security and management considerations.

Privileged Access Threat Report 2018

Published By: BeyondTrust     Published Date: Apr 04, 2019
The WannaCry ransomware attack in May 2017 crippled the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and disrupted a range of organizations across 150 countries. Despite being a relatively unsophisticated attack, WannaCry was able to make such a global impact due to preventable vulnerabilities that had largely gone unaddressed. There were many more attacks in 2017, including high-profile breaches at Uber and Equifax, where heeding cyber-security recommendations may have reduced the impact and fallout. The scale and sophistication of cyber-attacks is not slowing down – ranging from phishing scams to cryptocurrency-based cyber-attacks, to statesponsored attacks on industrial control systems. These attacks present an ever growing challenge and serve as a reminder that organizations cannot afford to be complacent in the face of cyber threats. Hybrid Privileged Access Management for Hybrid Architectures: A Strategic Approach

Published By: CA Technologies     Published Date: Jun 01, 2018
Challenge Understanding, managing and containing risk has become a critical factor for many organizations as they plot their hybrid architecture strategy. Access by an expanding array of privileged identities looms large as a risk concern once organizations look beyond tactically using cloud services for cost and agility efficiencies. Existing approaches developed for static infrastructure can address initial risk concerns, but fall short in providing consistent policy enforcement and continuous visibility for dynamic, distributed infrastructure. Opportunity Multiple elements factor into how effectively an enterprise can embrace automation and advance the maturity of their transformation. However, security tools are central to enabling a structured and measured approach to managing critical access risks at each stage of the maturity model journey. With the right privileged access platform and set of tools, enterprises can progressively automate and scale access management to align risk
