Email Security Threats: Not Just From the Outside

Published By: Mimecast     Published Date: Feb 13, 2017
Security and risk (S&R) pros have the challenging task of using finite resources (including budget, time, and people) to protect their businesses from every possible attack type. On top of this, S&R pros don’t just need to watch out for threats coming from outside their walls, but must keep an eye on internal threats as well. S&R decision-makers face threats from three groups of insiders – compromised accounts (internal accounts that have been compromised by external attacks), careless misuse (internal policy violators and those who accidentally leak or expose data or systems), and malicious insiders (insiders who purposefully take or misuse data or exploit systems), and they must be prepared for each. In February 2017, Mimecast commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate the state of enterprise security readiness for internal email threats.

A Proven Security Intelligence Model for Combating Cyber Threats: A Reference Model for IT Security

Published By: LogRhythm     Published Date: Aug 08, 2016
IT environments have become much more vulnerable as enterprise mobility, cloud services and “bring-your-own-everything” have broken down the defensible perimeter and added layers of complexity to securing the enterprise. At the same time, the nature of cyber threats has changed dramatically. Threat actors are well organized and well funded, and many of them are known to be supported by nation states. They have sophisticated technical skills which allow these actors to create custom malware for very specific targets, and they are relentless in pursuit of their objectives. Moreover, almost anyone with a malicious intent can purchase malware and rent botnets on the Dark Web, lowering the bar for criminal entities, nation states, and terrorists to use cyber as a weapon of choice towards their intended purpose.

Benefits of Machine Learning

Published By: Cyphort     Published Date: Jun 28, 2016
Computer viruses have plagued personal computers since the original Brain virus began infecting boot sectors in 1986. Originally, these early viruses were annoying, but fundamentally benign in nature. However, once the initial concept of malicious propagating code became established, the actors creating viruses became more sophisticated in their approach. Ultimately, the results of a successful infection were more significant and the impact on an enterprise more severe.

NGFW Requirements for SMBs and Distributed Enterprises

Published By: Cisco     Published Date: Feb 16, 2016
The need for threat-focused next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) that can effectively mitigate risks that traditional unified threat management (UTM) and point solutions cannot is highlighted by numerous studies, including one from Cisco that reported that every organization should assume it has been hacked. Cisco threat researchers found malicious traffic was visible on 100 percent of the corporate networks that they observed, with evidence that adversaries had often penetrated those networks and were frequently operating undetected over a long period.
