Top 10 Security Myths Debunked

Published By: VMware     Published Date: Sep 12, 2019
You’ve heard the stories: a large Internet company exposing all three billion of its customer accounts; a major hotel chain compromising five hundred million customer records; and one of the big-three credit reporting agencies exposing more than 143 million records, leading to a 25 percent loss in value and a $439 million hit. At the time, all of these companies had security mechanisms in place. They had trained professionals on the job. They had invested heavily in protection. But the reality is that no amount of investment in preventative technologies can fully eliminate the threat of savvy attackers, malicious insiders, or inadvertent victims of phishing. Breaches are rising, and so are their cost. In 2018, the average cost of a data breach rose 6.4 percent to $3.86 million, and the cost of a “mega breach,” those defined as losing 1 million to 50 million records, carried especially punishing price tags between $40 million and $350 million.2 Despite increasing investment in security

UMFASSENDE DATENSICHERHEIT Oder All-Flash-Arrays

Published By: Infinidat EMEA     Published Date: May 14, 2019

Understanding the Impact of Comprehensive Data Security

Published By: Infinidat EMEA     Published Date: May 14, 2019
2017 and 2018 were not easy years to be a CIO or CISO, and 2019 isn’t showing any signs of being easier. With so many career-ending-level data breaches in 2017 (e.g., Equifax, Uber, Yahoo, to name a few) and with the stronger regulatory requirements worldwide, CIOs/CISOs have a corporate responsibility to rethink their approach to data security. Regulatory compliance aside, companies have a responsibility to their customers and shareholders to protect data, and minimize its exposure not only to external attackers but also to employees. The most common method of data breach in 2017 was a phishing email sent to a company’s internal employees (See 2017 Data Breach Investigation Report), This makes employees unwillingly complicit in the data breach. Over 80% of successful cyberattacks have a critical human element that enabled them. The average employee who opens the innocent-looking attachment or link, is unintentionally jeopardizing a company’s data. While there is no 100% protection, th

What’s New in the Windows 10 Security Log

Published By: LogRhythm     Published Date: Aug 08, 2016
Among the countless changes in Windows 10 Microsoft has provided IT organizations more visibility into auditable actions on Windows 10 machines and the resulting events in the Security Log. Understanding these enhancements is important because we need every edge we can get to detect endpoint intrusions. Threat actors use a sophisticated mix of phishing, social engineering, and malware to attempt to compromise any user within an organization. A seemingly benign order request sent to a salesperson or a benefits summary to someone in HR can contain attachments infected with malware. Once such payloads are in, the goal is to determine how to leverage current users and other accounts on the compromised machine to access valuable and sensitive data, as well as how to spread out within the organization and repeat the process.

Why You Should Consider Hosted Messaging Security

Published By: Trend Micro SaaS     Published Date: Feb 20, 2009
Hosted, or "in-the-cloud", messaging security capabilities are becoming increasingly popular with organizations of all sizes. Some have already adopted hosted services, while others are becoming more receptive to the notion of using third party services to manage their security infrastructure than they were just a year ago. Particularly driven by the current economic recession, decision makers are realizing that hosted email security can provide a cost-effective solution while actually improving security.

Published By: CA Technologies EMEA     Published Date: Sep 14, 2018

Winning the war on cybercrime: Keys to holistic fraud prevention

Published By: IBM     Published Date: Nov 04, 2014
Cybercriminals are stepping up their attacks on financial institutions by gaining control of customer devices with highly advanced man-in-the-browser (MitB) malware and spear phishing attacks. They then conduct real-time credential theft and take over accounts. The main reason for cybercriminals’ continued success is that highly evasive advanced financial malware allows for a wide variety of attacks that are very difficult to detect with traditional fraud prevention technologies.
